Getting set up to go hunting in South Africa next year. Going to be in the Zululand area, figure there gonna be lots of bugs, as it's a malaria area. So I want to take my Thermocell with. Problem is you cant carry propane on the plane. So my question is... Can I get the thermocell refills in Johannasburg? or am I gonna have to think of something else to do for the bugs?

I got this off the Thermacell FAQ page. This was my first thought, ship the Thermacell and cartridges to the outfitter prior to your trip and have them hold it for you. I hope this helps.

    Here is a link.

Q: Can I bring my Thermacell on a passenger airplane when I travel?
A: IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations state that you cannot bring Thermacell butane cartridges on a passenger aircraft or airline. We typically suggest that you bring your Thermacell appliance or lantern, and the mats with you, but purchase the butane cartridges at your destination. Or, you can ship the product to your destination in advance of you arriving. Thermacell products are sold in over 25 countries including North America, Europe, Africa, and Australia; and are available throughout the United States and Canada.

I'm from kwazulu natal. 3 - 4hours from hluhluwe. If you land at king shaka umhlanga is right there, buy citranella oil candles, citranella mozzie spray and whatever your doc prescribes for malaria.
I was there last time in October and didn't bother with the tablets. I would highly recommend them if you from overseas.
Don't try bring butane cans even if they are empty. Our customs officers can get arrogant.
When you coming out? I can meet you at king shaka with repellents if need be.

Can always take some empty butane cartridges with you and fill them when you arrive. Can get a can of butane at any smoke/cigar shop and probably a bunch of other places as well. Not hard to refill.
