As soon as there isn't snow on the ground! Probably late February if it warms up a bit or early March.
We just started getting pics of bucks with half drops. We also just got 7" of snow so the sheds that were already on the ground are covered until melting but there should be some laying on top of the snow if we don't get anymore. I might try and walk this weekend.
Yeah I like to get out as much as possible to get the ones that drop on top of the snow. Then once the melt hits it's really go time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I usually start the 3rd week of Feb depending on the weather and trail cam photos. I hit it hard the whole month of March when the snow is gone, I only have a few young deer that have dropped so far.
I've been out a couple of days but haven't found anything. I've seen posts on Facebook of guys finding some sheds. My goal is to finally find one this year.
biggest thing that helps me is to stay positive. your first shed could be just below the next bush. sometimes I think I enjoy shed hunting more than actually sitting in a treestand hunting. I'm going to check my cameras this weekend. hopefully they are starting to drop.
I found a 6 point matched set and a half of a six. Too much snow. And my competition found most of them already.
How in the world are you heading out? We got about 16" on the ground here in va and its still pouring down. Over 2 feet in my hunting area. Turkeys will be gobbling by the time this leaves according to the future temps
just got back. no sheds. walked about 5miles.holy crap I was in places with about 4' of snow but average depth was 3'. deer are starting to struggle now. good thing there was a ton of acorns last fall. that is the only thing saving them at this point. I got a buck that finally lost one side on feb 19. I'm pretty sure he lost the other side shortly after because in never got another pic of him as a half rack again. all my deer are bald now. the only thing to do is wait forever for this snow to melt. I'm traveling on snowshoes. I'm focusing on feeding areas hoping to find a fresh drop. if the antler is big I should be able to spot it. plus I'm sick of sitting inside watching it snow. I have 3' in my yard and supposed to get 3" today and 6" more tonight. never going to end I swear.
I was about to say lol. I've been going 3-4 days a week up until now so I don't have cabin fever bad yet but I'm getting antsy
Most of my shed hunting is in MD, but I do sneak over the line once and awhile. About 2 weeks ago I picked up a matched set that was less than 100 yards from PA. In the next week or 2, I bet 80% of bucks will be shed. It does suck trekking thru this snow though.
we have had a number of sunny days lately and this snow is testing my patience. I know that I am walking over hidden sheds below my feet. i'll go back and check them over real good after snow melts.
Not going out until this snow melts, Looks like it should be warming up and some rain after this weekend. Ready to put some miles on.
took some corn out today and no luck stumbling on any sheds yet. trail cams showed all the bucks visiting the corn have now all dropped. time to wait now.
