Are you ready for October 1st ? Where are you hunting this year ? October 1st can't come soon enough!!!
Personally I'm not even close to being ready. I just scouted for the first time 2 weeks ago. I've drained my hunting money on speeding tickets and a F'ing $50 parking ticket in Chicago. I was going to purchase all new arrows. FML! Rant to over, I'll most likely start my season mid October like on the 15th. I'm still trying to finish all of my honey do's and projects. On my list is to figure out the best way to store my climbing sticks and with my muddy hang on. There's either an easier way, faster way or a smarter way to attach them to the stand for better mobility. After I either figure out this madness or give up I need to search a particular part of my woods for a different tree to set up in.
Selfbros, Midwest Whitetail has a 8 or 10 minute video showing how they pack in with a Muddy Hangon and sticks. It looked fairly efficient. It is titled Mobile Treestand Setup.
1. kind of. I'd say I got 80% of what I wanted to done which isn't bad! lol. 2. Hunting a 200 acre local spot in Madison Co. and a few public areas on Mississippi River and Carlyle area. Then our family farm down in the Shawnee National Forest in Pope co. Southern IL. only 6 days!!!!
I'm pumped!!! Got my stands hung in the public land last weekend and and the private land is primed and ready for the rut to come. White side county here. I cooked up my last package of deer burger today so I'm glad it's almost here or my family might starve lol good luck everyone
Man your right in my area. I'm a Glen Carbon resident. I go to Simpson and Equality, IL all the time for work. Going at night to Simpson is always a fun drive. Kinda like a video game. Dodging all those deer running across the roads. I know some locals that own property against the Shawnee National forest and they say it's crazy the amount of deer that are down there.
Haha I'm a Glen Carbon resident myself! Off of Old Troy. Yea our farm down there against Shawnee is loaded with deer. Took a hit of EHD couple years back and is just now bouncing back to real good numbers. just a pain that it's 2.5hrs away. my local spot is 200 acres in St. Jacob.
Anyone have any luck yet? I went out for the opener in some public but was packed and didn't see a deer.
It's a small world fore sure. I'm in the Fairfield subdivision. So we are even closer then we knew. I hunt Jamestown bottoms. If you know where that is. I also have several pieces of land to hunt in Greenville (hometown).
I am going out this weekend in western Illinois near Macomb. I am not as excited as I should be based on the foretasted temps. If a turkey or a monster walks by I will shoot, but this seems like a lot of trouble for a doe... It is also youth firearm in Illinois Oct 8-10 so well see what's moving to begin with.
I hunted opening evening. Saw 8 deer. All does except for one spike. I took a doe for the freezer. Good year so far. Got a bear on opening day of season in MN, and a doe opening day in IL. Good luck to everyone
Any advice on some different public ground near Springfield, IL besides Jim Edgar and Sangchris park ?
New to the forums. Does anyone have some recommendations on public land just to shoot targets? My buddy and I just got our gear up, probably not ready for our first hunt until next year, but would like to find a spot outside we can just throw a target out and start shooting. Were in Chicago, but willing to drive as far as it takes if there is nothing local. I might just drive around and try to find an empty field or something somewhere, not sure what everyone else does as I am totally new to this. Thanks for the help.
I like to go out to Chain O'Lakes State Park between Antioch and Spring Grove, they have a range from 10-40 yards, with pits for broadheads, a mock stand to practice shooting down, and a path with a dozen or so targets from 10-70 yards. It's managed by a local club from what I have been told but never found any info online.
