I saw this while I was out and about and was wondering what type of tree it was?

That's a walnut tree. Leafs are not right for a plum tree.

I've had black walnut trees pretty much my whole life. Those don't look like black walnuts. I don't know anything about other walnuts, but those don't look like black walnut fruit or leaves to me. The shape is pretty close, but walnut leaves are very uniform along the branches.

WTH? Did you guys grow up in the middle of KC?! It's a wild plum tree, persimmons have a big upturned cap on top of the fruit and those leaves are wrong for a persimmon. Walnut?! LOL...no...just no. Walnuts look completely different and the leaves are real similar to pecan...it's a wild plum, I picked some this morning at the edge of one of my fields and ate them, they are mostly ripe here.

Good point it is lacking the lil caps, leaves do not look wrong though IMO look just like the ones in my yard. Guess I have never seen a "wild plum" tree.

Pretty sure it's not a persimmon tree, as I can identify one of those. Especially when they have ripe orange fruit! Lol. Seriously though. Had another person suggest wild plum, but the leaves aren't exactly right, I don't think.

But...are we going with wild plum?

Leaves are fine for a wild plum, leaves are different on tame plums, more like peach but wild plum it is definitive, absolutely, positively and no doubt whatsoever. Check out the links I provided, they have pics that show an exact match to fruit and leaves.
