Finally got my bear tag and I'm not sure if I am going to be able to use it. Has anyone on here got a MI Bear tag before, and not had a place to go?

Did you end up passing on the tag? Find an Outfitter? DIY Hunt?

I have 0 experience hunting bear but would love to take one with the bow.

    Any information would be great!

Do it yourself is entirely possible in Michigan if you have the time to pre-bait your spots. Up there I'd imagine there are guys that will run baits for you for a fee which would be OK as well. Federal forest all around.

The hard part is I have never even been up there before so i am unsure on where I want to really hunt.

I've found a couple places with lodging but the gas money plus lodge may be pushing it for a solo mission.

exactly like stated above. MI you can do it by yourself no problem just need to do a little pre scouting. IM sure you can find some people that bait sites and let you hunt for smaller fee. Check craigs list, woods and water, or forums

I found a couple places on craigslist with great deals that I am willing to look at. The hardest part about the DIY is the pre-scout, especially being 9 hours away.

Im super excited though, a unsuccesful DIY would still be a great adventure and experience!

    Thanks for the info

I haven't really "Talked" to anyone yet but through email this is what i've came across

yeah about average for all that. You may find some people where they bait and stand but then you have to cover your lodging and meals. Might be cheaper route

Would be worth it in my opinion. Gotta do what you gotta do, not every year do you draw a MI bear tag.

There are state parks you could camp at or anywhere on the state/federal land. Everything N of 28 and West of Marquette is in that zone and there is all kinds of land. We used to set camp near Craig Lake State Park and deer hunt back in there. All kinds of bear sign, many of us had bear take over our deer baits from time to time. Also is Michigamme Shores Campground and Van Riper State Park just East of there.

Yes I actually fished it once and camped there one night. I had a buddy from college that still lives near Pelkie, just West of Baraga, and one summer a few of us met up there to do some fishing. That's right in the heart of that unit might as well say. Find a guy that can run baits for you and it looks like you'd have a cheap place to stay!!

I decided to go with a Hunting Lodge in Baraga. The guy has an awesome price and he includes fishing and whitetail during the bear hunt. Now the end of September couldn't come soon enough!
