Hello there my name is michael this is my second year of hunting, really don't know that many people do I use a lot of public land to hunt on so I was wornding what is the best way to hunt on public land?
go in farther and away from everyone... get away from all of the lazy hunters that just look for an easy place to set up...
Also, use other hunter pressure to your advantage. When the "lazy" hunters walk in to the woods, they are going to push the deer somewhere. Scout the area and find those escape routes, and be in your stand before the other guys.
Try not to enter through the same paths everybody else uses. Find backways in if possible. One piece of land I hunt which is open to the public I come in by boat.
Talk to the land owners that border t public land. They may let you walk across their land to get to your spot on the public land.
That's a tough question to sum up. We have some articles with tips on hunting public land, check them out. Welcome to the forum!
Welcome to the site, I always start out with a lot of electronic scouting! Google earth is a great tool! The next thing I like to do is scout on nice evening in August to see what is out there and get an early season plan together. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Glad to have you on the forums!
