Howdy, folks! New member from western Montana here. I am a native Montanan and have never lived in another state. I'm been an avid hunter for over 34 years of many species, but mostly with firearms. I used to be an avid bowhunter but dropped out of it in the early 90's to pursue other interests - mostly waterfowl, predators and blackpowder. I have taken several deer, an elk and numerous small game with my bow back in the day. I'm ready to jump back into bowhunting, thanks to my young son who wants to start bowhunting this fall. He has taken a few animals with a rifle, but is intrigued by bowhunting. I want to fuel his fire, get him a bow and get back into it myself. Wow, have things changed in bowhunting! My old bow is an 80# PSE Pulsar Express. I'll likely still use it, but can see that I'll need new sights, a rest and arrows. I may need to back off on the draw weight, too. My old arrows are feather fletched aluminum shafts. I used a glove in the past, but will likely give a release a try. I intend to get my son started with a new bow. Anyway, I guess I have a lot to learn (and re-learn). If you have advice on this new technology, I'd appreciate it. Tom
Thanks, Backcountry. We're not too close. I'm closer to Helena. Grew up and started hunting near Billings. The Bitteroot Valley is beautiful. I've never hunted there, but been through it many times. Those Bitteroot Mountains are pretty rugged. Closest hunting I've done to you was some elk hunting west of Wisdom, near the Idaho border. One of my favorite places to hunt. Took my biggest mule deer (with a bow no less) there in 1988. Tom
These are the best posts. I can't wait for my daughter to be old enough to shoot a bow. Good luck and welcome!
