Whenever I shoot below 8 meters, my arrow hit erratically all over the target board. Above that range, especially at 30 meters, i get my best accuracy. I tried adjusting the the arrow rest, but i failed to eliminate this short range innacuracy. I wonder what's wrong.
Have to explain a little bit more. What do you mean by erratic? Are they high, low, left, right or no pattern at all. What poundage , what draw length, what arrow and what arrow length are you shooting?
Fletching contact? Longer distances the fletching has time to correct the arrow flight but not at short distance.
Let's put it this way. my 8 meters grouping is slightly worse than my 30 meters. But as stated above, maybe the arrow is too long. I lost all 6 of my original arrow which came ready fletched and cut to an appropriate length by the shop. Then I bought a new half-dozen Easton Flatline 340 spine arrow shaft which came uncut and unfletched. I fletch the arrow myself but never cut the shaft (don't have the cutter). At first, I thought it was the fletching. I refletch the arrow, but the problem remain. Then Elkguide mentioned Arrow length in his reply above and I think he's right. I always thought that you just buy the right spine and that's it, you're good to shoot. Never knew about the arrow length. I think I'll bring the arrow to be cut when i have the time.
This was my first thought. My second is that you might not be picking at spot as well at close range. For instance, if your target's center ring is the size of a quarter, that's a pretty small spot at 30 yards. Gives you a good point of aim. That same quarter at 8 yards can seem quite large, not giving you the same precise point of aim, and increasing the amount of float in your hold.
