I started bow hunting 3 years ago. I was wondering how long you should go until you get a new bow string?

General rule of thumb. Target shooters 6 months to a 1 year. Target and hunting 1 to 2 years. Just hunting 3 years. That only applies if you have no extreme fuzzing, fraying, broken strands etc etc etc.

I wax my string 2x a year between spot shooting in the back yard and hunting....just watch the "fuzzing". Besides that, every 2-3 years as said above depending on how much you shoot.

I first recommend having a closer look at the condition of the string. If you find any badly frayed sections or broken strands on the main part, then it's the right time to change the string.
