I am new to bow hunting and have just picked up an older Bear bow that shoots well. I have shot it approx. 20 times and it seems to perform well. I don't know the complete history of the bow and was wondering if I should go ahead and replace the string? Any suggestions as to brand of string to purchase? Thanks in advance for any help given.
I would and I've rid tried a lot of strings over the years and I pretty much stick with Vaportrail these days. Their VTX material is nice, they ship within a couple days and price is good. Would not hurt to replace the strings and lube the cam's. Check the draw weight and measure nock to peep just incase things don't seem right after replacement.
I would go ahead an replace the string and cable. As far as brands, I used Prostring but can't find them anymore. Someone can point you in the best direction for that.

Not trying to highjack this thread but it brought out a question that I've wanted to ask in the past. How often should one replace the strings on a bow. Is it based on looks of the sting, years, or shots fired?
1 to 2 years for target shooters or less 2 to 4 for hunters and of course wear is the main reason to change inspect your string for fraying and broken strands Hutch
