Completely new to hunting and archery. I think I'd like to hunt with a bow, and intend to hunt deer and elk. Could anyone recommend a good book or two for a newby like me to develop a basic idea of what to do?

I believe Bill Winke has published a few books. I know there are others out there. just search specifically what your looking for. Bow Hunting in general or Archery.

There are too many books to name. Peterson's Bowhunting is a great magazine to subscribe to for valuable information on everything archery.

I just got the Total Bowhunting Book for my birthday. I'll try to post back when I get into it. Looks like a solid book.

Probably not exactly for the noob, but Mapping Trophy Whitetails by Brad Herndon and Bowhunting Pressured Whitetails by John and Chris Eberhart are two of the best reviewed (on Amazon) and most recommended books for hunting deer on internet message boards. Bowhunting Whitetails by the Eberharts is also highly recommended.

No, I don't work for the Eberharts. Lol.

to reiterate FroMan's recommendations, bowhunting pressured whitetails is excellent and highly recommend.

PM me your address and I'll send you one that's somewhat dated but still useful. If you're going trad, let me know-you wouldn't want this one, because it revolves around compound bow hunting-but I have a couple good trad books, too.

One of the most interesting whitetail books I've read is "Hunting Whitetail's by the Moon" by Charles Alsheimer. Not exactly a book of how to for new bowhunters but full of insightful facts and opinions.

Bow Hunting World Magazine (free online magazines) are exceptional. There are some great videos on youtube. Check out Bow Tuning Tips. Kenny Parson does a wonderful job. I bought a bare bow, watched his videos, and purchased his bow pro packages to set it up. I've got mine down to the fly's *** at 60 yards. You'll learn a vast amount about your bow and its setup if you do it yourself. Also, Field and Stream has a great book on Deer Hunting and they have a bowhunting manual as well.

Somebody already mentioned "Mapping Trophy Whitetails" by Brad Herndon, but another great book is "Aggressive Whitetail Hunting" by Greg Miller.
