I have a PSE DNA SP, 70# and shooting 400 spine 29" Gold Tip Hunter XT's. When I shoot my target tips, I can group 5-7 arrows within 4" circles at 40 yrds. The moment I put a broadhead on, they corkscrew like nobody's business. I have tried Axe Hybrids, Montec G5, NAP Thunderheads, Grimreaper whitetail specials, and they all fly the same. No telling where they will land on the target. They are all 100 grain broadheads. Anybody have any idea why???
My guess in that you are under spined by looking at the setup and the reason that you will notice it with broadheads is that they have alot more air resistance compared to a field point.
Yes , under spined I suspect, 400s to light for 70, go to 340, a little heavier, if u want speed, try velocitys 340. Hope it helps
Yea.. 70# bow, you'll need a spine of 350 or lower, but don't go too low or you'll hit other issues. Each manufacturer has a matrix of what size spine to use for the draw length and poundage.
Thanks for all the advice, I have been told the higher the spine, the better, I guess I took advise for the wrong folks. Thanks for the input. I will check out the lower Gold tip 340's. Hopefully it will help with this year's Hunting Season.
Now I know not to listen to the guy at the Archery Counter at ****'s Sporting Goods. I will have to get the tuning checked at an Actual archery shop, somewhere near Nashville, TN
There's a really good shop northeast of Bowling Green near Nolin lake (35 minutes or so). Might be worth the drive if you don't find something you like in Nashville.
Sorry. Forks of the River Archery shop. Good guys and know their stuff. I'm taking my bow up there in the next couple of weeks to have new strings put on.
You won't be disappointed... Good folks, and know their stuff. If you're coming from Nashville, take the Park City exit off I-65 and go through Mammoth Cave. GPS may route you through Cave City, and Mammoth Cave and across the ferry. Closer, but longer drive time wise.
Sounds to me like your arrow rest is not totally square to your nock point. And it's off to the side a bit. I'd try adjusting these two before changing arrows...
I'd still say he is under spined since the arrow point of impact with a BH are sparatic and not consistently left or right, and looking at gold tips spine chart it looks like he definitely needs 340-300 depending on fps.
