What about fletchings? I got the suggestion to go with Blazer vanes, I am thinking I will probably go with a high profile vane of some sort. Maybe blazer or Vanetec. I am wondering if the alignment is all just personal preference or if it truly makes a difference? What are the benefits/disadvantages of straight, offest, or helical fletching?
I dont know from experience, but have heard that the more helical you put on the 2" vanes the better. The EZ Mini fletch puts 6* on them and that is from what I have heard, a good way to go.
I shoot right helical also. It is supposed to help keep your fixed blades from planning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I use Fusions 3" Vanes and they fly awesome , I also use the 2.1" from Fusion and they fly awesome as well ...
^^^ What SPOT said... Here's an excellent article on fletching = lots of information, plusses, minuses, etc... THE REAL TWIST ON FLETCHING Carbon Arrow University - Length Straightness & Mass
I've used straight, offset and the NAP QuickSpins. With the Bodoodle rest I am using now all I can get away with is an offset. When using a drop away I do like a fast spinning arrow. They seem to fly an group a little better than a straight fletch but, when my bow is tuned perfectly they all group well. When I was shooting Muzzy 4 blades with the QuickSpins the tuning of the bow was even more critical. It seemed they would fly in a cork screw like flight if the rest was just slightly off. If it was shooting bullet holes it shot perfectly. The deer I have killed have been with straight fletched Blazers though. Then again I do use mechanicals now.
Really it depends on your setup. If you shoot a whisker biscuit you would be better shooting a straight fletch. Drop aways offset or helical. The more twist you have generally the fast it spins. The faster the arrow spins the quicker it stabilizes. Down side to more helical is it also added more drag. More drag equals decreased speed but not that noticeable within 40 yards for the most part. hope this helps.
