Definitely not wasting your time. But it probably won't be long, if you really start getting into the sport, that you find yourself looking for a newer model. But the Whitetail 2 is a great bow to start learning the fundamentals on. That's the bow I first started shooting with. When I got my new Bear Legion I gave my Whitetail 2 to a buddy that was thinking of getting into archery. enjoy
