Thanks to Tom, ill have a Monster Raxx mineral lick out for the entire 2013 season. I put it in early knowing it would take awhile for the deer to find it, and make it part of their routine.

I situated it next to a "horsetail" swamp that i have on the back side of my farm. Weve killed a number of deer that were passing through this swamp over the years, and it has been utilized as a bedding area in the summer months. The lick itself is on a trail leading out of the east side of the swamp, very near where i had a "deer cain" lick a number of years ago (hasnt been used for 2-3 years now by the deer, i got lazy with it).

Location...showing the swamp, some of the trails, and where i put the lick...

Cammed up with a Moultrie i40 (i know...not a Covert..but that can be changed once it starts producing..)

I started it the 3rd week of January, so hopefully March, the bucks will know where its at. I have and will contie to use the Apple attractant to get the deer aware of its location...

First trail cam check...i need to make a little adjustment and get the camera a little farther away so it can see a more panoramic view..

Had dogs all over my property this week. Part of life...

Some yearling bucks did find it in this first week:

Overall the first week was pretty slow (which was to be expected). I might add some corn in the next couple weeks before turkey season, and like mentioned, i will be adjusting my camera.

Get your gf a shirt and start sprinkling some mineral over her food. :tu:

But seriously, you won't be disappointed. I put 14 bags out last week, and I still have another 10 or so to put out

Nice to see someone else who is startin their first monster raxx site, I was waitin till spring to get mine started but if you already started yours I better get movin on it. Good to see it working too, how's the apple attractant workin for ya? I put some down with corn an not a single deer touched it =[ I dunno if it was just placement or they just never found it, but was bummed after not gettin any pics.

Like i mentioned, i didnt have much traffic, but its still early. The deer still need to find it and once it greens up and deer arnt focusing soley on the few food sources availible they will be on a more widespread travel pattern.

I see, will snow ruin a site? We're only suppose to have maybe a snow shower or 2 more for the rest of winter an dont wanna start one if the snow will hide/ruin it. This is my first year makin one an don't know a whole lot bout em.

Snow just turns into water. When it melts it will release the scent just like rain..

When snow is covering the lick it hardly gets used.

It's my experience any kind of moisture helps the minerals absorb more into the surrounding soil, in return I think this keeps the deer coming back longer on the same bag of Raxx. I almost always have more pics on Raxx sites after a good rain.

It's probably easier to find when its wet. Scent travels further, faster when its wet.

I actually dump a bottle of water on the first half of the bag I dump out, mix if with the soil, and then dump the rest on top.

Week 2 and it still pretty cold. The lick was covered up with snow for the majority of the time. I refreshed it with some Apple spray, and i may have to use some corn if it doesnt heat up in the next 2-3 weeks.

Heres a shot of the lick in relation to the swamp bottom...

    The only deer all week:

There are tracks in the vicinity. They either havnt found it, dont have it on the mind, or are avoiding it for some reason...
