What's the most you would spend to have a deer mounted.

Our local guy is up to $500 on a shoulder mount and if I shot a big buck I wouldn't like paying for it but I gladly would.

If the work is worth it, I'm willing to pay for it. That being said...one of my best friends is a world class taxidermist. I live 1300 miles away from him and I still send all my animals to him. he gives me a break because we are very good friends and he hunts with me, but even if he didn't I would still use him. His shoulder mounts are normally $475. He does all his tanning work in house though. He also operates a commercial tannery and does tanning work for other taxidermists, so it helps keep his own costs down. If the same quality work was done by a taxi who had to send out capes to a tannery, I would expect to pay $550-600 for the quality of work he does. My personal opinion is that if an animal means enough to you that you want to pay to get it mounted so you can enjoy it, why not do it right? a $300 mount sounds great until he's on the wall with his bugged out eyes and smiling at you.

$575...unless you want it to look bad or need redone in 5 years in my area you gotta spend $500 minimum.

If you're willing to drive and are having a hard time finding a new taxi near you I recommend Corcoran's Taxidermy in Hampton, MN. I've only had one mount done but it turned out great and they came recommended to me from others. It was around $500.

I can't see paying to get a mount done, I just do an antler mount myself.

My last mount was 400 I think he turned out alright. Not the biggest deer in the world but my first bow deer. Looks like we have enough numbers now to come up with an average. My taxi wasn't recommend I just took a shot on him and I think he did a decent job for what I had at the time and I look forward to getting my next one done. I to will definitely pay good money for quality work. [IMG]

Around here most taxidermists are in the $400 - $550 range. The taxi that has one the world competition three times lives about an hour from me and he's getting $650 for a turned head, shoulder mount. He did my Red Stag last year and his work is truly amazing. IF I ever shoot a big deer, I'll pay the money and get it done by him.

depends, my best mount I had done for $300 through a friend of a friend. The last one I had done was $400 and it looks like it was a $200 job. I would probably pay $450+ for a reputable taxidermist.

Interesting you say that. They are expensive nd I guess it's all a matter of personal preference and willingness. They look awesome if they are done right!!!!
