going hunting for medium game in march. We want to try some mechanical broad heads for the first time. I am looking for something that fly exactly the same as field points. I would also like to find something that would work for my bow (83ftlb KE) and Wifes (40ftlb KE)
Also. what is better. the front deploy or rear deploy. seems like the rear deploy might be good for avoiding ribs, but might not deploy all the way.
I wouldn't go with shwacker if I were you. They make a hell of an exit hole but not much for an entrance. Take a look at the rage hyperdermic and Rage SS for your wife. Heard too many bad story's about shwackers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rage all the way!!! They have a 40ke hypodermic & I use the X-tremendous 2.3". Never have a deer run more than 50yrds with either head & fly exactly as my field points.
I am a rage hypoddermic guy as well. I have never had to adjust sights from field points and have had 100% successful openings.
Yea that's a loaded question! I'm a Shwacker fan personally and suggest going to YouTube and watch some of the tests performed! No complaints with Rage heads except blade thickness, which can equal destroyed broken heads in a animal! Schwackers are highly unlikely to break apart and blades can be resharpened or better yet replaced :-)
I've killed my last 5 deer with swhackers. All have been pass throughs except the last deer. I hit the offside shoulder. I watched the deer go down within 60 yards but the blood was sparse because of the small entrance hole. I am going to continue to use them because they have worked well for me.
Grim reaper razorcut, extremely tough and reliable no o-rings and excellent blood trails. I've seen schwackers, rage, meat seakers, all used by guys at bow camp and none have even come close to the reapers. I've watched every deer go down with them and reused them on multiple deer all pass throughs
NAP spitfire, I don't know what the recommended KE is but they are deadly and leave red carpet blood trails.
Post your thoughts on the Swacker when you get back. It is an intriguing broadhead, but I am always worried about what happens when you do not get a pass through and have only that one 1" slit as far as trailing goes. I like the Killzone and they have a low KE but may be a bit much still for 40 ft/lbs.
im not to concerned about the entry hole. i shoot G5 Montecs currently, and they are only 1-1/8"Dia. so ill loose a 1/8" on entry, but double the organ damage. So there wont be nearly as much following blood trails. At least thats my logic on it. people have been harvesting animals with small fixed blade broadheads for a long time. So i only see going the the swhacker making for a quicker and cleaner kill with no down side. Im just concerned about mechanical failures, but thats what i thought about compound bows before i made the switch. Now i cant see myself going back to recurve.

From what I can see from the video of the hunt, the swacker hit to much of the bucks rid cage and didn't get any penetration. He ended up carrying the broadhead about 50 yards before it finally fell out. I got pictures of the buck two weeks later perfectly fine. There were deep grooves in the ferrule of the broadhead showing how much impact the broadhead took. I'm still convinced a good fixed blade broadhead or even a rear deploying broadhead would have killed him but that's just my opinion
