team 5 Shed Totals no.6Hunter --- 0 western-wi ---- 9 ilinihunter ----- 1 Holt ------------ 21 TJF ------------- 45 SheddinVA ----- 40 Peakrut --------- 0 Total Shed Count - 116 Looks like a great team! Once we get everyone checked in, we can vote on a captain. And feel free to tell everyone a little about your self. Looking forward to getting to know you guys!
I can update my original post to show who checked in. I can also keep the shed count there also for the team as the contest goes on if everyone is cool with that? I can keep the totals updated as the sheds start coming in
Holt for captain is good with me. So...I've never found a shed before but, this year I plan on doing a lot more walking. This is my family's second year at our new property and all I found last year were a couple dead heads, five and six points. Hopefully in 2016 I find shed's and no dead deer!
I don't need to be captain, I was just volunteering to keep shed count since I started the first post. If anyone wants to be captain, it's all yours!
Don't worry man, it's all for fun. It looks like there is a few seasoned shed hunters on the team, and if you have any questions just ask. We can try and get you on a few sheds this year!
Try not to focus so much on the areas you hunt or see deer in the fall and if you jump deer, even if they're does go straight to that spot and look around. This has led me to quite a few, almost like the deer were telling me to follow them haha
See if you can shed hunt the neighbor's properties as well as yours. You need to find out where the bucks are wintering when they start dropping for the best success. Binoculars are a must when looking for sheds especially if you are looking in large open areas. Cloudy days or walking with the sun at you back helps a lot when looking for sheds. Stop and look back from where you just came from ever once in a while. If you rewalk an area later in season, hit it from a different direction. You would be surprise how many sheds blend in with the surroundings from one direction of walking only to stick out like a sore thumb walking it from another direction or looking back. go slow and focus. These 5 things have helped my kids and I find a few sheds over the years... Tim
Awesome collection. How many years have you been shed hunting and about how many do you normally find each year? How do you decide which ones go in/on the blue tote?
We started looking for sheds when Tyler was 7 and he is 24 now so about 17 years. Back when there were a lot of deer, we would average well over 100. Best year was 254 sheds. That year I found 110 and Tyler found 144 sheds. Things have changed a lot since then and our deer population is way down. Britney and I are happy if we find 30 - 40 sheds a year now. To tell you the truth, I don't know why those sheds were in the blue tote. Picture was taken a few years ago when I wasn't so darn forgetful. Now days when I go shed hunting the biggest challenge is remembering where I parked the truck so I can find my way home. Tim
Found number 7 today. It's a match to one I found last year but it was too green when I hit the area so I missed it. It's a match to one of the below but I won't know which until later this evening. All three are the same buck from two different years.
I'm getting the itch to go out, but told my self I am waiting til February. Plus this weekend looks like we are getting 12"-24" of snow, this should be fun!
Brother found 2 fresh ones side by side yesterday. Never found any in January around here but maybe this weather helped. I jumped 6 deer the other day, all but one were huge bucks so looking forward to hitting that area once they drop.
