Ok, talked with my uncle this weekend on his property and it's a go on the food plots...etc....First off come march or april, Im going to be planting rather long strip around the edge of property of Clover/Chicory mix.... Can anyone suggest something to throw in...that will not overtake the clovers or chicory but add to the mix for a well rounded food plot...etc Thanks Creeks!
Red and White.....www.plot1seed.com - Seed Products - Jackson, MI ,,,,,Double Down is the one Im going to plant...for now Spring
You could mix in some oats with it as a nurse crop. It will give the deer something to snack on while the clover gets established and the turkeys will love it if it goes to seed. Here is an article about clovers that has some good info in it as well Outreach Outdoors Forums ? View topic - Clover
I've had good luck with canola.. I'm not sure about it overtaking the others though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hi thwap I am in fredericksburg and the planting date for spring clover up here is Feb 15 till March 15 I am planting 2 ac in landino and red clover with a forage oat nurse crop I was headed in this direction last year and when I contacted the coop they told me I would be throwing money and seed away planting after mid March. The other date is late September/October with a nurse crop. Warm season annuals are a different story as soon as th ground temp hits 60
I would suggest a sprinkling of alfalfa. I planted one year at the time decided not the plant for a bit because the land owners cows kept busting the fence to get to it. They are gone now and the alfalfa plots will be starting back up this spring in Va
Thanks Man...I got with my Uncle yesterday and he said as soon as it dries up he's plowing ground, so I will myself get it out early March...Thanks for the Info... Creeks!
Plow Down Clover | Frigid Forage <<<< Going to plant this in one of my spots, and then till it under and plant This >>>>>> http://www.realworldwildlifeseed.com/plot_topper.html....The other places along edge of field will have this >>>>>>Clover Chicory - Real World Wildlife Seed........................
If I was you I would plant a bag of the Eagle seed broadside mix where you are planting the fall brassica radish mix and than in the spot you need something to go in I would buy a bag of their wildlife managers mix soybeans. All you have to do is sign a Monsanto agreement and you are good to go
Oh yeah, now if this isn't the ultimate mix than idk what is. Now granite their pH, soil nutrient levels, and water were probally pretty close to ideal but either way those are monsterous veges for the deer. It's a little pricier but well worth the cost
Thanks for turning me on do that...I'll be getting some for sure.....Im so excited about being able to do this, I can hardly wait.....Plus I got a new Obsession fusion 7 on order to start the season off with this year....Plots, New bow, etc.....oh Yeah, i'll be ready!!!
