For you guys who run feeders I was just curious about what you are filling them with this time of year. Are you using pellets like Record Rack or maybe a mix with corn
I'm mixing soybeans and corn and milo when I can get the bin unloader to work. I mix about 50/50, doesn't matter what percentage of corn or milo as long as the mix is 50% beans. Beans are expensive but not nearly so much as pellet feed and they're better protein. I saved back 1000 bushel of corn and 1000 bushel of beans. I have a few thousand bushel of milo.
What kind of feeder do you use? we just picked up a couple boss buck feeders so i was looking for something to fill them with. Access to Corn and beans would not be a problem
I use Bossbuck feeders as well, the #350 feeders with one piece legs. Grain works fine in them, I drop the feeder snouts down all the way and it seems to feed out just fine. I'm in the process of designing a smallish tender wagon I can pull around with the Polaris rangers to fill the feeders with. There doesn't seem to be any decent options out there on the market which I find inconceivable as many people as there are that run feeders. I refuse to use a noisy damned leaf blower type contraption. Mine will be 12V operated with an adequate auger to move grain fast.
That sounds pretty interesting. You will have to post some pictures of that when you get it done. We have 1 BB 350# feeder and a couple other Moultrie feeders so we realy aren't on that big of a scale. Thanks for the info
I mix 50/50 Corn and Pelet in my wildgame 5gl feeder. Im hoping to upsize and start mixing 50#bags of corn with monsterraxx!
We usually run a mix of corn, soybeans and dried sweet peas or black beans. We try to mix it 70/25/5 I know --- why the sweet peas and black beans? Because they seem to work--- No idea why, but they have something in them that draws deer in winter better than other things we have tried.
Just curious, but how much time passes on average before u fill your 5 gal feeder. I was looking at them over the weekend but have never used any feeders other than home made gravity feeders that got destroyed by bears.
The feeder I have runs once in the morning (8:45) and once in the afternoon (4:20).It has some sort of photo sensor eye that detects sunrise/sunset. I had it out for two weeks and it was just about empty when I returned to fill it, I'm not sure how much feed is needed for it to work correctly as it works on gravity but I'm assuming at least an inch. I really like it cause regulated portions and out of reach from coons.
I feed white tail delite. Corn, black sunflower, soy beans with molasses. I feed in pans on the ground so I feed every day. I also put out 2 bales of alfalfa. The only thing about the bales of alfalfa is that the deer tend to be there eating the alfalfa when I approach with the feed. It actually reinforces a positive experience with me pushing them off my approach and scent means food.
Heading out to our place this weekend and thought about throwing a bale out for the winter months. Do you spread it out or Mix other feed within it?
Interesting, I never thought of doing a 50/50 mix of soybeans and corn, I'm not sure where I can get soybeans but I'm going to look into it. Anyone have any recommendations where to find it? I usually do corn and/or Deer and Elk feed with protein and crude fat. I give the deer a month break here and there throughout the year.
Any standard elevator will probably have soybeans on hand all the time. May have to buy some loose in a bucket or something.
just corn year round out of my broadcast feeders, in the process of building a protein trough feeder that will go out this weekend or next..if your broadcast feeder doesn't have a guard make one or the coons will eat all your corn..
