Hey guys, I have some low lying ground right next to a swamp with that tall canary grass. There is a small woods of very thin mature Poplar trees. The problem is this area is way too open for big bucks to travel. Is there a good tree to plant that will grow in this lower land and provide thick cover for some big ol bucks to cruise through comfortably in the daylight?

I did some research and found that swamp white oaks grow pretty good in low lying areas, and they produce a acornn which the deer like. I dont think they acorns are as good as regualr white oak, but its still a acorn. Are Tamaracks and spruce a fast growing tree in central MN?

Black Spruce a not fast growing at all, but love wet swampy areas. They most commonly grow in the norther 1/4 of the state though.

Tamaracks grow in the top 2/3s of the state. They love swamps and low areas and are absolutely gorgeous in the fall:tu:

So you guys know where to get some of these trees? I'd like something that would grow rather fast and be self sustaining

Maybe a mix of some fast growing trees and slow growing trees?
