Hey guys, I'm thinking about starting some mineral sites for increases antler growth. Our land is about 200 acres, how many sites should I start? I'm thinking I will try the monster raxx stuff. Also when is the best time to start? And how often should I add more?

    Thanks for the replies!

Monster Raxx recommends ~ one bag for every 40 acres. In all honesty, it's up to you. I think location is more important than the amount of sites (obviously on larger properties, you have more room to spread out).

You can really run minerals year round, but many guys will put them out around late winter/early spring and replenish regularly through early fall.

Are there attractants in monster raxx? Or do the deer just have to find it on their own?

They make spray/liquid attractants you can use with the minerals, but the only "attractant" per se is the salt component.

They show you what ingredients are in it here.

Thought it had some molasses in it?

Yeah it does. Not sure on the amount. The 14% salt content probably serves as the main attractant. Drop the molasses component, and they would most likely be just as drawn to it ;)

I add a liquid attractant that is definitely the attractant, not the salt or molasses.

Good to know. Is that what the "natural" and "artificial" flavors are?

The smell of MonsterRaxx is very distinguishing. I don't know what that it is, but once I put it down, the smells carry all over the place. Great Product!

I'd make about 2 or 3 and put it within a few hundred yards of water if possible. You can either dig a hole and mix the dirt back in with the minerals or dump it on a decaying stump. It's simple and it's a field camera hot spot, not to mention it really helps the overall health of your herd.

You can use molasses right now but if you want some with no molasses I have some that I use myself without sitting on the shelf.

True, just before hunting season I would use it. How many months before should I switch to no molasses?

There really is not that much molasses in there to ever use it in MN. I do not hardly use any myself unless it is during the summer and I don't have any bags made without.

Should I add some other minerals to my monster raxx or just put the monster raxx out by itself? Is one bag enough or do the deer go through it right away?

When I start my sites back up or a new one I always do a two bag approach ( I use only Monsterraxx). Clear about a 3 by 3 foot area atleast...chop up the soil with shovel...mix in the soil one hole bag to depth of 1-5 inches down in the soil...now pour second bag over the top of the soil....BOOM!
