Per the request of Siman. Here is my thread with updates of my 80 acres that I purchased early November. The property is located halfway between Wausau and Antigo Wisconsin.

Here is an aerial of the land.

I took my 27' camper up there a couple of weekends ago and set it up for gun season.

There is a driveway with a turn around area. Not terrible accommodations.

I got a good spot picked out for my climber. I cleared a few shooting lanes but it is pretty think. But I knew this was going to be a deer travel spot looking for somewhere to go. Here was the view from my stand:

Saturday night we received about 2-3 inches of snow.

My wet, view from the stand Saturday evening. It was wet and cold. Nothing was moving.

The weekend allowed for me to see many deer within shooting range. The largest buck I saw was a 6 pointer. Many does and fawns. I passed on everything.

As I left, I secured the gate cable and left with a sigh. I could not wait to return.

Yeah, plan on getting some cameras out sometime in spring when the bone starts growing. Keep in mind, I'm 3 hours away so it's not like I will be able to get up there every weekend.

We are meeting with a couple of local builders on December 10th and plan to take a walk through the property again. Hope to have more pictures then.

Man that place looks awesome. I would love to own a place like that. It will be a good feeling to kill a deer on your own land :tu:

Thanks Fitz and others. Our family is heading up there this weekend to meet with a couple of builders and take our first family walk on the property. There is 5 inches of snow up there I'm told so the kids in the sled with me pulling with be the protocol. Good exercise. I'll post some pics when we get back.

Well my wife and kids went up to the area to meet with a couple of builders. We stayed in a hotel and had some fun. Then we took a family walk with the kids down the main trail. We again saw plenty of deer sign which is great. My 4 year old really got into walk along the deer tracks and suggested we follow them until we found the deer.

We stayed at a hotel the night before and had some fun in the pool. I feel it's important to make these first few trips up there as much fun as possible so the kids look forward to going up there as well.

The next day we took our first family walk on our land. Here is me with our 19 month old on my back.

Here is our 4 year old. I was pulling him in the sled at times so he didn't have to walk the whole way.

And this is the result driving home after our weekend. Gotta love that as a parent. :o

Is that a pond/water hole in the SW corner of your land?

Yes it is. I took these pictures of it when I was walking the property in August prior to me purchasing it.

The cabin plans are now done and we are submitting the applications for the sanitary and building permit this week.

If this mild winter keeps up they should be able to start building sooner than normal. The limiting factor is when the spring weight road limits come off of our dirt road. Hopefully sometime in April/early May they can start.

Here is what our cabin will look like.
