I have a place were I would like to put out a small food plot. But I'm wondering if It would even pay since its right by a hay field thats decent hunting already. The neigbor has pines that the deer just LOVE right across the fence. And I was wondering if I would be able to pull them out of the pines into the plot if I had soybeans there.

Yep. Staging areas work awesome, It gives the deer a place to come out and start feeding without leaving something they feel is secure. You'll see more deer earlier than just waiting for them to enter the hay field. Put up a cover screen around the edges so they feel secluded. And if you put up a hot fence also you can control where they enter or exit.

How big is it? If less than an acre deer will mow the peas before they come up. But you could mix them with oats. Anything is better than doing nothing in most cases. No guarantees but least you tried :tu:

If you plant a different food than what they already have and it's something that they like, good move.

If you were to plant soybeans in a small plot, they would get over browsed and never mature; unless, you went with a group 8 soy bean, like Whitetail Thicket by Eagle Seed. It's more of a vine that a stalk and can take heavy browse.

Yep need to find an ice cream like feed for the deer to seek. If you fence it off and let it grow as much as possible then pull the fence and hunt the plot till it is mowed flat, deer seem to want what they can not have I have thought of putting in a plot of nothing but hostas deer love them they will walk right up to the back door of the house to eat them.
