Last summer I had an old sentinel tree, a red oak that is well over a 100 get hit by lightning. It blew a strip of bark out 4" wide by 12' long up the trunk. I was bummed I live in an area that has oak wilt red oaks are the most susceptible to oak wilt and this tree was an old surviver. I checked on the walk by out to feed the deer and the tree has buds it seems to have survived made me happy that I didn't lose it, takes 100 years to replace a 100 year old tree.
Once we had a big ol' pine tree get hit by lightning, unfortunatly there were 8 cows underneath, which all died. That thing is still living.
