Im new to the site. I'm sure this has been talked about many times. I just bought a farm and planted food plots in the spring. I have some great looking plots. The brassicas are almost 6 feet tall. How will the palatability be on these large plants and will the deer eat these long stalks late season?
If you planted the Brassicas in the spring they may rot before the season hits, that happened to me my first year. Plot stunk for a few weeks.
Yeah I did plant them in the spring. Right after turkey season. I guess I got them in too early. They are monsters. You can literally walk into the one acre plot and disappear. No rotting yet. Fingers crossed. What month did yours start to rot?
Mine were rotted by early October here in MI, I went through before the season and chopped out as many as I could, the remainders stunk pretty bad. I just planted mine for this year two weeks ago. The deer here really don't hit them until mid to late November I feel.
I doubt the deer will touch them if they were planted that early. They will be bitter. 60 days before the first frost is the time to plant brassicas. They will be at their peak palatability during mid to late November Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've never seen any type of brassica reach almost 6' tall. What are they? The one in the pic looks like it's taped to a bamboo pole?

I see. Well that first pic is about what they would generally look like now. Nice looking plot though.
