Anyone try this thumb release? Looks pretty interesting and at a good price. Has anyone had experience with any of the other spot Hogg releases? Or can anyone give me some suggestions on others in this price range, at max 130 dollars. Thanks.
The Saturday night special is a particular model. Looks like many thumb releases but its a great price. 120 dollars I believe
Whipper snapper 3 finger. Seems to be the only difference is the lanyard and I guess the saturday night special can be more finely tuned? I dont know why the whipper snapper is more expensive though
Im looking at the pictures again and seriously, on a visual note all that I see is the leather wrist wrap and white string holding it as the only difference. Otherwise they both look the exact same to me.
If your thinking about using a SNS...you better like two things in a thumb release. First the SNS is very small, I have med size hands and the SNS was way way to small for my liking. Secondly you better like a very short neck...the SNS is about as short as they come. It also isnt the easiest release to load on a D loop, it doesn't have a load button and it makes a noticeable click when its engaged....not the best features for hunting. Yes its cheap, and the trigger is also excellent...zero travel...but honestly I dont think its the best choice available....in general or for the money.
If we are talking about a release for hunting I wouldn't recommend any of the Spott Hogg hand held releases..... some I would look at: Couple of Carters come to mind...Plain 1. Simple 1, Too Simple........ Tru ball Max 4 Hot Shot..... eclipse, Tempest, stan potts, Temtest 3... Scott Exxus....
The max 4 pro is an alright release yes not my first choice but , its quite and some people like the swivel head on it..... I take it your new to using a hand held release?......They are all slightly diffident in form and feel....not to mention diffident types/style of hooks and jaws.... You might want to head over to a pro shop that a decent selection and try a few.... They tend to be pricey so if you can avaoid buying something that you dont like you can save some money in the long run....
Yes I'm new to handheld releases. Last Saturday I was at the pro shop and I held one and I liked the feel but never shot it.
In regard to adjustment, the FND/SNS and the WhipperSnapper are virtually Identical. There are really two functional differences between these releases. 1. The jaw on the Whipper Snapper automatically locks when you cock the trigger, where as the SNS/FND requires you to manually close/lock it after cocking the trigger. 2. The other main difference is the length of the neck. The neck on the Whipper Snapper is about 1/2" longer than the SNS/FND. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I got the whipper snapper 3 finger on order open loop. Don't mean to insult your intelligence but talking to them they said open loop is better for spot and stalk and closed is better for blinds and tree stands. Theyre on 2-3 week backorder from the manufacturer. Also bought Tommy Hogg 5 pin wrapped.
