Check this out and discuss. Compound Bow Broadhead -vs- MEAT/BONE/& BALLISTIC GEL-- RAGE "Chisel Tip 3-Blade" - YouTube
Well the ribs aren't going to be sideways while shooting big game, unless you are shooting laying down. I don't like rage broadheads anyway. I have had them open up during flight and have had them break two blades on impact as well. Not surprised by the outcome of this video. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have had the exact same thing happen more then once with the hypodermic's. They hit a rib and explode in the deer. I did kill both deer that it happened on, but that's not good enough. I no longer shot them for that reason.
If you are going to do an online trial and have credibility you need to break down your set up. I didn't watch the whole video but what was the KE of the set up, most importantly what was the arrow weight of the set up? I always suggest an arrow over 450 grains if you are going to use a mechanical of any kind.
I agree with you are breaking down your setup. I also thought the video was very unbiased and had a lot of information. He took the time to show you exactly what could possibly happen in the event a mechanical doesn't perform as advertised.
We don't have plastic wrapped turkeys in Minnesota, nor do we have an open season on cattle. Plus arrow weight contributes to penetration I think we can all agree on that and that critical information was not included.
I absolutely agree that that is critical information that wasn't included. However some hunters aren't concerned about weight or arrow (shooting the fastest/lightest), and will buy fancy highly advertised broadheads without doing the research. Then when the product doesn't perform as advertised, it's the product not the operator.
The guy is shooting an Easton FMJ, one of the highest GPI arrows available. So what's your next excuse for the flimsy junk broadheads?
Good point. A heavier arrow may have caused the head to experience catastrophic failure even sooner. But, not much sooner, because it exploded on entry. It would of had to fail on release from the string. lol There are plenty of videos out there that show solid heads blowing through beef ribs with no issues.
Trial you if anyone should appreciate documentation is needed for credibility, leaving out the critical information is leaving room for assumptions.
I really don't care what the results are my set up is different and I have success even when hitting bone. Then again I have my set up turned up to 11, don't care if a blade bends don't care if the head is a one use deal.
Not to worry, Rage makes a low KE head that will explode on bone too. The broken shaft just gets a little less penetration after it snaps.
TuffArrowhead Testing on Beef Ribs.wmv - YouTube May not be the exact setup, but pretty impressive. Not nearly as many parts to pick up after the test.
Wait... You're telling me a broadhead with an 8" cutting diameter, 4 o rings, and flashy packaging will not guarantee me a deer??????
