I'm in the market for a new pair of boots. I'm looking for something warm for here in Illinois through November and December. I haven't decided if I want to go rubber or laced, but I'm open to either. I'm thinking 800 grams would cover the majority of the season, but I'm not sure what brand. Thanks
I have the 1200 gram muck boots. I've been the happiest with those so far. Still plan on buying the heated insoles though
As soon as it gets cold I leave the rubber boots at home. Even when I have owned versions with insulation they are still never as warm to me. But my feet seem to get cold really easy. I have some 800 gram Bushnell boots that I don't care for either so I can't recommend those to you. I am boot shopping myself right now.
I have some 600 gr insulated rocky lace ups that I am a big fan of, they keep my feet plenty warm and are super comfortable I also have some 2000 gr cabelas branded rubber boots, not terribly comfortable and don't feel they are as warm tlas description wold make you think, they are 100% waterproof and don't let scent escape so easily If I only have a short hike I'll wear the rubber boots, if I have a ways to go I just buy good socks and lace up thr rockys
After 4 good seasons of wearing Irish Setter 600gram rubber boots it was time for new. I tried on every pair I could get my hands on and decided on the LaCrosse Alpha Burly's. They are extremely comfortable after 2 early season walk and sits. They feel great, soles are very quiet and forgiving when walking on sticks/twigs. Either way I am pairing them up with the thermacell heated insoles. Worth every penny in my opinion.
These are my cold season boots. They aren't a super high end boot but they do get me through some cold hunts here in Wisconsin. I think they are 1200 gram thinsulate. On the super cold days I'll put some toe warmers on my toes and I'm set. Amazon.com | Rocky Men's 9" Blizzard Stalker PRO W'proof Insulated Boot-5454 | Snow Boots
Rocky Bearclaws here, couldn't be happier with the warmth (feet get cold quick), traction, ankle/foot support, and durability. rubber is over rated, my kills say so ROCKY BEARCLAW 3D GORE-TEX
Just what works for me in 20 or below. Typical running sock. Muck woody max. Artic shield boot blankets. A chemical hand warmer or two in the boot and maybe 1 or 2 in the blanket. I have and tried all the big time boots and the merino socks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have Lacrosse 800 gram boots and they are great. I wear them from October - May (turkey) for deer, duck, turkey... whatever else. I had a pair of irish setter (rutmasters) but they quickly formed a leak where the 2 pieces of rubber lay across each other. I went with the lacrosse because the toe are 1 piece. These are actually super comfortable and like walking on little clouds. Traction wasn't an issue climbing up some pretty steep grades it wet conditions. I'd look for something like those, maybe not lacrosse, but under amour or muck look to be the same "design".
I just use the brow muck boots. I Evan wear them in late January when hunting geese in KS. They are perfect for IL Nov and Dec weather.
I love my goretex Danner lace up boots but have also had great success with Nats Nats are made of the same material as Crocks but are insulated and are extremely light and warm Dan
