Hey everyone. I am looking to purchase a sight for my brand new bow (Elite Impulse 31) and am asking for a little advice. It will be used for strictly bow hunting. I don't really have a price cap but obviously looking for a good deal. I am open to new or used. I have tried to research some online but I have been out of the game for a while and with all the different options available, it is overwhelming. Please help! Thanks and happy 4th of July .
You are definitely going to get a "few" opinions on that question. First are you thinking single pin or multiple pin? What size pin? What colors do you see well? Lighted or not? I can only tell you my experience. I hunt mostly from ground blinds so that gives opportunity for short and long shots. The deer here come in to the blind areas quickly and leave quickly. That makes me most comfortable with a fixed pin sight. I don't do much target shooting so I like a larger pin. I use a 5 pin sight set at 20, 30, 40, 50 & 60 yards. (I've never shot 40 yards but I practice to 60) My eyes don't see yellow well so I have most of my sights set up with green and red alternating pins. My pins are .019 and I have a sight light if needed and in a blind I do sometimes. Currently I am favoring the AXT Titanium 5 pin sight. I also have bows set up with Axcell and Trophy Ridge sights. Now some decisions are yours to make. Get out and look at a bunch and see what works for you. Let the fun begin!!!!!
I would like multi pin. I also don't want to make any adjustments on the fly. Just want them to be sighted in at 10 yard increments.
Can't help from my experience much, always had a single myself, all I can say is True Glow or. Trophy Ridge
Sorry Elkguide...i somehow overlooked your post. Thanks for the info. 1.) not sure exactly what size pins. I want them to be smaller than my original Cobra site that I bout back in 2006. That is something that I need help/advice with as well. 2.) I am blessed with very good vision and I see all colors very well. So I don't think that makes a difference. 3.) my current sight is lighted. I think I have used the light twice in the past 10 years. This is also another option that I am asking for advice on. Not sure if it is a need or a want?? Thank you for the help!!
Is there a way to take off a couple of those pins? I don't need/want to have 7 pins. I am thinking 5 max but maybe 4 or so. If the pins can be removed, I might be interested. I have heard some about Spot Hoggs but an not too familiar with them. What model? Camo or black? Thanks.
It's black, and I removed 2 pins just to clear up the sight window. Spot Hogg Hoggit. Great sight, but my aging eyes have trouble with the .019 pins.
OK USBH. I'd bet that your old Cobra sight had .029 pins. Colors don't matter (yet) so that isn't an issue. A light is something that I can also count on one hand how many times that I have used one while hunting but that one time................. As much as I rib and razz the OLD happy hunter, he is a straight shooter. (well at least what he says is straight up. His actual hunting shots, well..............) That Spot Hogg is a good sight and in my opinion, that isn't a bad price either. It's too bad for him that he is getting so old that he can't see the .019 pins anymore but that sounds like he might have just what you are looking for.
It is hard to beat the Axcel Armortech sights. I have been shooting them for quite a few years now. 100% micro adjustable, armored pins, lite weight, stainless steel screws / bolts, all aluminum construction (except for a clear plastic cover to allow light into the fiber optics), bubble level, choice of standard or dovetail sight bar.
If you change your mind on the single pin way, I am willing to let go of my Optimizer light wit 2nd/3rd axis go at good price.
