If you had to leave him overnight, and It got below freezing. I don't think that it would be too much of a help.
My boss's some has one of the Flir attachments for his cell phone. He showed me a picture of a cat in the yard on a pitch black night and the cat was lit up like a christmas tree. I want a scope in one for coyote hunting.....
I use a pretty high end thermal imager for work and have found that you need to be within 150-200 feet to really see things. I agree I don't think if you had to leave an animal over night it would be worth anything. I heard the fler case for an IPhone is like $75 that might be a better investment Spend Your Life Outdoors
