So there is a decent thread over on AT about DIY stabilizers. I was bored in the office today so I wandered the shop for some materials. Found some aluminum and some phenolic rod. Machined a few weights out of the aluminum. Drilled and tapped a couple holes and wallah. Still need to bond in the 5/15 x 24 thread for the riser in the one end but I will do that after I paint tonight. I'll post some pics once painted.
I made an 8" and a 12" shaft so I can switch weights between the two at will for hunting or target shooting
Nice work! Looks decent. I tried this once but decided the 1.5" nut, wooden dowel rod, ducktape, a bolt and JB weld looked like crap on my bow.
This may end up looking like crap when it is all said and done as well, but if it does I'm out nothing and it helped pass a boring Friday. On the other hand, if they do look good on my new bow (when it finally gets here) and they shoot well, then a saved myself some coin
Looks okay so far, I was just kidding around. I think it's a cool idea and a nice way to add a personalized touch to your rig. Weights could be added or subtracted too to fine tune it. I'm thinking I might have tried to cut the rod up, center drilled it and used a one piece threaded rod (if correct threads were available) to hold it all together and attach it to the riser, balance and weight transfer would be more consistent. If a person had orange accents on the bow, copper or brass would look cool.
I mainly just have this thing where I think of, or see something, and then after a few days of stewing on it I just have to to it.
