Hey guys is there any way to make a good homemade target? I want a big target, preferably 3'x3' +, and I dont wanna pay the high prices that alot of targets that size are. I just want to practice out to 60, 70, maybe even 80 yards, and want a lot of room for error so i dont lose arrows. Is this possibly? What do you guys use when you start practicing out to 70+ yards?
Search youtube for them. I found one that (and I'm building it) that you just stack cardboard within another cardboard box. I am using the box that I got from my new BBQ for this. Then I have a smaller box with some foam from an old target that I use and will take to camp.
Cardboard has stopped mine. Here is a picture of my in process target Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was thinking about thin layers of rubber, but I have no idea where to get them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Compressed carpet with a burlap face. Many times you can find carpet that is being tossed out from remodel projects. You just need to find it. Good Luck!
Old comforters also make great fill if you use burlap bags make sure the staples are all removed from feed bags. I have used a big box with a styrofoam shipping cooler stuffed inside also
I use cardboard boxes filled with old t-shirts, packed as tight as possible, or burlap sacks filled with t-shirts or some other similar material.
Go to a lumber mill and as for the lumber covers. They have 2 purposes one for filling and the other as a facing. Here is one I have stuffed with clothes but could have used lumber covers
You can use a seed bag for a big target. Farmers get them full of seed, they are big. I think one when full of seed weighs 800 pounds? My local farm supply gave me several bags but i'm sure you could ask a local farmer for some. I filled mine full of old gillnet webbing and it works awesome, super easy arrow removal, but I realize you'll have to use something else, probably old clothes. But the idea of the seed bag works well for a large target. I used ropes to cinch it up tight.
Make your self a box and use bathroom caulking I did that and it worked well I can customize my own size and caulking is fairly cheap
I took old outdoor carpet scraps and rolled them up very tight and duct taped the crap outta it. Stops arrows suprisingly well
I used a plastic woven bag stuffed with pet blankets. It stops my Arrows form a 90# bow. It is not even that tightly stuffed so when the arrows start to penetrate to deep I will just add another blanket. Carpet under-felt will also work well. This is only for fieldpoints and not BH's
If you have an old treehouse like we did than its easy to make a target. Put some tin on it for a roof and stack cardboard with 2 boards on the ends to press it with threaded rod that you tighten to make the cardboard press and stop the arrows. This is what we did i'll post some pictures later Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Take a burlap sack and STUFF it with old clothes, jeans, etc. Just be sure to remove the buttons and zippers! It's pretty easy to find enough old clothes at garage sales, auctions, flea markets, etc for only a few bucks. A buddy of mine had one and had no problems with removing arrows from his 210FPS bow.
What I do is take a box and fill it with old bed sheets, and I also roll up an old sleeping bag and shoot at that. I use a 75# bow and I never have any problems with arrows breaking.
Im in the process of filling a 30" by 30" target we made out of 2x10's with old cloths. ill post pics later
Haha brings me back to all the 12 year old kids in my neighborhood doing that stuff. We stuffed sweaters with wood shavings from bows, but I'm sure you could stuff it with just about anything as long as it was tight. Tied a rope around both ends and hung it up, that was with some weaker lbs traditional bows though.
