I'm very happy with my 6-point buck from this archery season, but the going rate in my area for a Euro mount is about $200 and I didn't even consider a shoulder mount. I did a button buck euro/skull with hydrogen peroxide a couple years ago that came out good, so I decided to try it again. Materials: Four 1-quart bottles of hydrogen peroxide from Walmart (<$4). One large stainless stock pot from Walmart ($23) -- (wife didn't want me to use hers) Maybe $5 in propane from the bottle on my outdoor grill Cast Iron pipe and flange for mounting (<$3) Time: 3 or 4 hours of slow simmering in the pot on the grill (while I did other things and occasionally checked that the water isn't boiling) 2 hours initial skin/flesh removal 3 hours follow-up flesh/brain removal (the hardest part) 8 hours of initial hydrogen peroxide soaking (while I did other things and occasionally made sure the bubbling was touching the antlers) ~24 follow-up hydrogen peroxide soaking while I did other things. Here's some photos: After initial hydrogen peroxide soaking Mounting hardware Euro Mount on Garage Wall Lessons learned: Don't wait until the head starts to rot to start the process...the smells are exponentially worse. Do it sooner or freeze the head. my stock pot was too small. snout and then lower jaw/teeth were on the bottom of the pot and almost got ruined. I ended up not using the bottom jaw. After you simmer the head, the water is going to stink. Need to plan ahead for disposing of the water. I live in a housing development, so dumping down a storm drain is not a good idea when there's leaves and debris that soak up the stink juices and stink up the neighborhood. I ended up flushing with the hose, then neutralizing with vinegar. Next time consider flushing down the toilet if no bones, etc.
I use peroxide from a beauty supply. Much stronger. I also coat my dried heads, (after cleaning & bleaching) with Mop & Glo.
Thanks for the tip! I'm considering soaking in hyd perox again, not to whiten necessarily but to neutralize odor since it smelled still and I was able to get more brain matter out
Nicely done. The going rate around here is $100-$280, but the cheapest rate is an hour drive. I think I'll be grabbing some of those items for my next euro.
To add on to what elkguide said get the peroxide from a beauty supply place. You can get it unto 40% anything over that and you need a license. Also consider the gel vice the liquid. It adheres better and I think ultimately does a better job.. Great looking mount. Congrats.
Yeah do yourself a favor and try it once. I actually got a few doe skulls or small buck skulls to practice with first. Once you get the system down it gets easier.
How much $ for the concentrated or gel varieties? Also forgot to mention in my original post to soak in soapy water and then set out to dry before the peroxide
I have 5 skull that my dog brought home. They have been hanging in a TV tower for a few years now. About ready to mount but I didn't shoot any of them so will probably just let them hang. Kind of hard to do that in a housing area though.
I really like my buck boiler. Its just a plastic pail with a heating element in it so you can run an extension cord outside. I think I got it for 100 bucks??
MILKMAN - We use that set up for water for our goats during freezing weather but it just keeps the water from freezing. Would like to see just what you have there.
Chieffan- just google buck boiler, it will pop right up. I usually have to add some dishwasher detergent packets to get the water to boil, but it helps to break up the grease. I had it boiling the other day out in the barn and it was like a high of 10 degrees.

$100 plastic bucket?!? Read the title of this thread! I think it's easy enough to boil water...you don't need to spend $100. I was kinda mad at myself for buying a new stock pot for $25 when u can get something suitable at a yard sale for $4 or from your parents garage for free!! But I was pressed for time cause the head was rotting
One tip that i'd recommend would be to use a Power Washer to clean all the meat off. You don't have to sit there wasting your time doing it by hand and will get it spotless if you have the slightest bit of patience. Obviously make sure you don't use a jet setting that destroys the skull and brittle bones.
