I'm in the middle of drawling up plans to start a elevated blind project and I'm wondering what other people are using for doors and windows to keep critters out?
Will you be building a platform and setting a ground blind on top or building the whole blind out of wood?
You can find pre-fab blind Windows. Or you can make them out of plexiglass and hardware, hinges and clasps. You can frame up a door pretty easily to with 1x1 and plywood.
Pallets man.... pallets I've got 50 pallets at the house and getting ready to start a ground blind with them Mike4christ
The kids that work for me, and build box blinds on the side, use old 2" straps from ratchet straps for hinges on their plexiglass windows. Never rust, never make a noise.
I've never thought about pallets I have a whole mess of pallets at work I can bring home and use thanks for the idea Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I used 36" Pella sliding windows from Lowe's. They we're $110 ea. With 18x36" opening for bow. Set the top even with my eyes when standing so I can shoot within 2 yards of the base without leaning out the windows. They're all vinyl and super quiet. You can also look at casement windows for around $55 ea but if you turn it on end it may leak. The door I made out of 1/4" plywood and 2x2. Wanted it smaller so I'd have more wall space for hanging gear. Also, don't forget to tint the windows that oppose each other so you don't get silouetted!!
I had a box blind I used for bow hunting a for a while. I modified it so I could shoot out the corner and two sides tucking the opposite corner into the trees. It allowed me a wider shooting area and better visibility also allowed the stand to be a little smaller and still able to extend my arms and draw.
I framed it out and built the roof and siding in place. To get it up we tipped it forward putting the back legs in first. Used a chain hoist on the tree while lifting on the front. I'm planning to move it next year, might have to crib the front to allow it to be tipped down w a loader and not damage the soffet. Otherwise I may have to rent an extension lift and just pick it flat.
