My dad shot the buck of a lifetime on Saturday. Temps were super cold with wind chills colder than -20. He has a cheaper $350 Xbox and shot the deer at 43 yards. 80% of the bolt was laying at the impact location and two of the blades were blown clean off the head. He hit the deer perfect behind both shoulders and it ran 200 yards and died but the hole in it is between a quarter and half dollar. Looks like he shot it with a damn field point. Anyone see anything like this happen before?
I have seen it happen but with bone contact, not a perfect behind the shoulder shot as you stated. Have any pics of the deer and where it was shot? No trying to be combative at all here but you are only showing half the evidence. I have no skin in the game here but way to often we blame equipment for our own mistakes.
That's the best I can do. Didn't think about getting close ups when I was there. I will be taking the deer to the processor this week so I will get a better pic of the hole in it then.
I have seen way to many mechanical heads torn up like that. I know they kill lots of deer but they fold up and wound as many. Xbows are really hard on mechanical heads. With a good hit a field point will kill deer if you can trail. But why risk a nice buck like your Dad got.... congratulation.

Nice Buck ! happy hunter also--- I have never had a blade fail to open on my 4 blade muzzy----the only thing that fails is the deers heart !
