Just wondering if it's safe to shoot in the back yard without a retainer spring in place? I have to order a new one from Barnett, but wonder other than holding the bolt in place, is there a safety issue? What about accuracy.

    Thoughts?

Generally speaking if it is suppose to be there it is there for a reason. I think that is generally a bad idea. I could see a potential dry fire or worse.

    Thanks Heckler.

The bow I have is the Barnett Recruit and has an Anti-Dryfire-Mechanism that is basically a mechanism that requires the bolt to be lodged in place for the crossbow to fire. This mechanism will push back against the nock and not engage if the retainer is not there to hold the bolt in place. Nice safety system. I just called Barnett and ordered 3 more, as they are plastic and very cheap and easy to break.

Will look into that one for my next one. But this fits my 11-year old and wife nicely. The mission retainer is a simple and slick. Wonder if it will fit my Barnett?:o

I am not sure but I doubt it. The Dagger is only 30" long. Kids are loving it!

That's cool about the Dagger. But the pricetag is out of my effective shooting range. :) :biggun:
Unless you care to make a donation...

I would not recommend you shooting your bow without the retainer spring!!! J.M.O.
