So Im 15 and just decided to start bowhunting.. I was going to get a crossbow but my buddies gave me a hard time.. Saying they were gay and for pansies.. I decided not to get a crossbow and to stick to my old compound. Well, due to a shoulder injury from football, I can't pull back my compound without stacking up on ibuprofen.. Which alters my judgement on deer if I take more than 5 or 6 pills.. So, now I think I should have gotton a crossbow.. But, I don't want crap from people.. What do you guys think?

I think if you need it to hunt you should have one. I would rather see hunters out enjoying the outdoors with a crossbow than not making it out at all

I have no beef with crossbows. Only certain "hunters" that think they can "snipe" a deer at a 100 yards just because it has a scope. Other than that, use whatever you need to hunt.

Ask them who's a panzy when you're holding a 150" buck. If it's causing you troubles then definitely go with the crossbow instead of screwing up your shoulder for the rest of your life. Get what you like and have fun and enjoy the outdoors no matter what you're hunting or what you're hunting with.

At 15...I'd look at getting that shoulder issue surgically fixed...In the mean time forget about the peer pressure and get the crossbow...you'll be able to hunt and enjoy it more if your not in pain! good luck!!

Hunting is hunting. I will never understand why some weapons bother people. Hunt with any weapon you want, just hunt.

I think if its the only way you can get out in the woods, then a crossbow is the way to go. But if your physically capable, then compound it is. Personally I don't plan to use a crossbow until I physically cant pull a compound anymore.

Screw the peer pressure and be your own man...you will learn this is the way to live your life sooner or later anyway so you might as well start now. I switched to a crossbow this season....not because of an injury...because I could and I like it.

Im gonna try to get out there with a crossbow soon. And to all of you who dislike crossbows, Im with you, now that Im actually good with a compound.. I love it! But, I really wanna get a chance at a big buck before gun season when they get all spooky.. With all that being said, Im gonna try to get a crossbow for backup and something for my dad to use(he cant shoot a bow for crap)

I'd agree on getting a crossbow if thats what you want. If you'd really like to use a compound, go shoot some newer compounds in the 50 lb range. I don't know what your current bow is set at but being young usually your pulling back way more than needed, I am right now. Also bows have come a long ways in the past few years and many are much easier to pull and hold than older models. Its something to kick around, but I have nothing against crossbows, hunting forme.

sorry, but if taking 5-6 pills impairs your judgement you are not taking ibuprofen. as for a crossbow who cares what others say. nothing wrong at all with using them

That's what I was thinking  Nothing wrong with a crossbow as long as it's used legally and what have you. Go for it
