So second morning of bow season here in Michigan I'm sitting in my stand and Im watching a group of 6 does meander through a clearcut section of my neighbors property from my left to right, they eventually get out of sight and POW! A rifle goes off very close to where they went and 2 minutes later 5 does come back from right to left all of them very confused and looking back in the direction they came from. Now for history of the area I'm hunting. It's been in my family for roughly 65 years and it's my baby, within the last three years I've pulled 4 mounters making it that much sweeter. But some of my neighbors are the kind you really don't want to cross being that they live there, of which I do not I'm 1 hr away and they really don't care if they go to jail (Yeah that breed)
I would describe the situation to the game commission. They may have that neighbor on a watch list or have some basic advise for you.
I would have reported them THEN. I've done it before, and will again the next time something like that happens.
I know here we have a TIP (Turn In Poachers) line that you can call and be anonymous. Not sure if this is just Minnesota based or not but I would find out if you have such a deal and make a phone call.
So that was back in Oct...nothing to be done now. Happens next season, call the TIP line and be done with them.
dbags! get about 3lbs of tanerite to have on hand and if it happens again sneak out there and shoot it off. it will scare the crap out of them. maybe the knife will slip when there gutting out the deer and the wardens can meet them at the ER.
Based on recent success I wouldn't change much. I know local DNR officers and sheriffs that know people that poach deer. It is very hard to catch them in the act. Wouldn't hurt to report if you wanted. Unfortunately it may not help much.
It wouldn't hurt to mention it to the DNR. If someone else turns them in also it may keep you out of the spotlight.
It's your neighbors property = none of your business....don't borrow trouble where there's nothing you can do about it.
Just because its your neighbors property does not mean that it is none of your business at all!! People think that they can do whatever they want because they own the property, but if they are breaking the law, wether it be on their own property or not, they are still breaking the law! I would for sure report them to the local game warden, they will for sure look into it because poaching is not something they take lightly. I don't care if your on your own property or not, there is laws for the way we harvest animals and there is seasons for a reason so follow them!!
