What kind of broadheads do you guys use for turkey hunting? Do you switch it up from what you normally use? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I carry Magnus Bullheads in 125gr as well as Gobbler Getters just in case they won't commit to the decoys. that pretty much covers the bases.
Same question. I use the same BH I use on Whitetail and Elk. What is the reason to change up BH's for Turkeys? Some of these huge 3" cutting blades look like they would make mince meat of a turkey breast.
I've had great luck with big mechanical heads and light, fast, flat flying arrows. A turkey's vitals are pretty small so the extra cutting area is nice to have and you're not worried about penetration to KE, momentum and arrow weight are out the door. Knock on wood I've shot three birds the last three springs with a Killzone, Spitfire Maxx and Spitfire XXX. None of them went more than 20 yards.
I like a big cutting diameter for turkey. They absorb the arrow like a pillow so I like the big cut, shoot 'em thru the drumstix.
The best imo is the dead ringer killswitch. 5" cutting diameter and works great on both head and body shots. I shot both my birds last year with them and they performed flawlessly resulting in quick recovers. I shot one in the neck and the other in the vitals. (I wanted to try each to see how they performed) My arrow actually passed right through the one I shot in the vitals! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
NAP Spitfires did a bang-up job on deer last fall and I actually got my first pack in a trade to test out on a turkey. Now I have 3 more packs and plan to poke a bird with one should the opportunity arise.
