So are bucks still chasing during the daylight hours? I'm planning on sitting all day Wednesday, but not so much all day if everything has slowed down here in S. IL. I hunt in Bond county if that means anything to anyone.

Sounds about right timing for the second mini rut.

I missed the two great weeks of hunting due to work and gun season. Although, I did kill the biggest buck of my life during gun season. However, I cheated because I should have had a chance with the bow. Poor choices on my part for 2 of the sits that I did have during the Rut. I sat in the wrong stand twice.

I had a nice, but younger 8 pt come out cruising in my soybean plot yesterday morning at about 7:15ish and again at about 7:45. He was clearly out seeking as he was just kinda walking circles in the field. I guess he was trying to pick up a trail on a hot doe. I don't think he found what he was looking for though and moved on out of the area.

Well, just today on my way home from work I saw a buck (6pt) in some thick stuff just off the road. I pulled over and watched him laying with 2 doe! They all stood when I got close enough, then the bigger doe started to leave, with the buck right behind her and his nose still to the ground. This is the latest I've seen a buck dogging a doe in my area.

It has been slow here with the last 5 days of rain tied to the end of rifle season. Hopefully the nice weather will get them up and moving this week. From what I have seen the big push around our place was around the 6th, 7th, and 8th of November.

Hey fellow Glen Carbonian! Haha. I wont be able to make it out again until mid December, getting hernia fixed. :( but there was Giant bucks chasing does down at Cahokia Mounds just yesterday. You would have sworn it was first week of November.

I just saw a decent size buck 120" standing behind the Dierbergs in Edwardsville near the bike trail. he had his nose in a branch overhanging the walking trail. Think he was out sniffing as well.

Last night I had a really nice buck cross the road in front of me about a mile and a half from my place. He was out cruising I think, still a fair amount of daylight when I saw him.

Just got videos on the 26th of small bucks still chasing and 3 different bucks working a scrape line hard. All night time activity but its not over yet. Does were peeing in the scrapes as well

Well I went out for what might be my last attempt and didn't see a thing. Although I did see a scrape that wasn't there two weeks ago. Oh well I can't complain about my season. image.jpg

Drive through the SIUE campus at any given time and you're likely to see a deer...
