Alright ladies and gents I want to see your decked out blinds and tree stands. I. Really interested in ground blinds. I'm looking too set one up but not sure what to do. So give me some ideas. Sent from my ALCATEL ONE TOUCH 4037T using Tapatalk
No "pimping" of blinds/stands needed... Find spot on ground with good back cover, clear area, place chair, and wait for deer.
My best elevated shooting house. 14 x 16 and the floor is 20 feet up. Deck all the way around. Completely finished inside including carpet and pad. Also has a table for playing cards and several nice office chairs on rollers. A single buddy heater takes about 10 minutes to make it warm enough for shirt sleeves. I have never shot a deer out of it, but use it for kids and first timers.
Thanks. I built it in one day and pulled it out into a picked corn field at about 2 pm. I went home and cleaned up and got my son and three hours later he shot his first deer with a bow out of it. The deer have zero fear of it. I killed a 170 buck out of it as it approached that decoy set-up in the middle of a picked soybean field. And my father-in-law killed his first ever deer out of it when he was 70 years young. He got the bug so bad, that he now owns a hunting farm with a cabin and last night I went there to help him recover his first ever crossbow kill....a nice doe. I just bought running gear to make another one.
Great blinds. I like the wagon also! Always fun to look at other peoples blinds and how they do them. Do you use dual pane insulated windows? I tried plexi-glass on mine last year and every 2 minutes was wiping off moisture cause I couldn't see out of it. Mr. Buddy Heater was going. -2 F on Thanksgiving morning. Had small vent open. Huge pain, wasn't fun. I read to use dual pane insulated windows so I installed some $65 Menards hopper style ones vertically this year and looking forward to seeing how they work (removed the rubber seal so it's quiet when opening, yes a little air comes through) (also read sliding windows can freeze up and become noisy (anyone have this experience?) which is why I went with hopper style). Will post pics of mine soon.
Double pane certainly will help. Air moving across the windows will also work. Sounds funny, but a small battery powered fan does the trick.
Yep. Shot turkeys out of it this spring. We shot deer out of it last winter too. Had a bad storm blow it across a field this late spring and I still need to make some repairs on it and get it moved. Hope to do that this weekend when my son comes home from college to help. The bale blind is another that you can move to a new spot and hunt out of immediately. I love being able to use them in open areas with decoys.
Fletch, awesome blinds! Wagon blind, posturing iowa bucks tangling with that decoy, that's the stuff dreams are made of! Very nice work sir!
I love the hay wagon idea too given its mobility. I built a platform for my ground blind last year. Inside I have a comfortable plastic lawn chair for myself. A couple of ice fishing folding chairs for the kids. And the floor is covered in those interlocking foam mats to dampen noise. I've also hung a couple of my ice fishing caddys to hold gear. And I attached a bungee to the ceiling to hang my bow right in front of me with an arrow knocked so I am always at the ready. When its really cold, I run a Mr. Buddy heater at my feet. I've thought about making it a permanent but I like that I can tip the platform down and move it easy. But I was also thinking about adding wheels so the haywagon idea intrigues me.
Originally I planned on having this so I could pull it around to different locations which is why its on the trailer. Well it didn't take long to realize it's way too top heavy so I added a couple extra feet to the base. If I need to relocate it I'll have to disassemble it, which won't be too hard. The base is wood I got for free that was originally some sort of crate.
How does it work around there when couples get a divorce? Are they still considered brother and sister?
