There is a spot on my lease that I havent messed with in almost 20 years. I decided late last year after looking at some pics of bucks coming from that direction I needed to walk it while shed hunting. I found a few spots that I am really excited about. Next time I am in there I will take some pics. There is even a spot with a few apple trees, where I can also put in a kill plot. I am pretty excited to get some cameras back there.
I would just make sure after leaving this area as a "safe zone" for so long that you have another area where the deer can escape to and feel safe. My friend and I got permission to cut some timber in a 2 acre area for a safety zone after deciding to move into a non hunted area, worked out great!
You make a great point. There is still going to be alot of land left for a sanctuary for the deer. I feel pretty strongly about this, and have a number of them through out the property.
LOL!! You know you will enjoy every minute of it. At least the end result will surely be worth it anyway
I am headed there this weekend to mushroom hunt and put out minerals. I will take some pictures while I am there. I hear what you are saying it will be a rough few days getting this done, but it will be worth it in the end. We have to carry everything in to do this work all by hand and it is probably close to a mile walk back in from where we will have to park. Hopefully the food plot will work with out being able to get a tractor or 4 wheeler in to till it up.
Good luck Tom! Hopefully the hard work pays off for you this fall. I have a spot similar to the one you mention that I started work on a food plot last year and never finished it. Hopefully you have better luck than I did. :D
From the sounds of it you might have some good luck this fall! Hope everything works out this fall! Good luck!
