Teach them to bowhunt, guarantee that they have no disposable income for anything else the rest of their life.
My son refused to be interested in bow hunting or even shooting a bow. He had a teacher that was way too into archery in the schools, had the kids in gym class shooting bows for a month. My son would have rather played basketball or prison ball it really turned him off. My daughter bow hunted, she passed on a six pointer the first time she hunted. She since has gotten busy with college and graduated now she is working and does not have the time.
My daughter has come turkey hunting with me this past spring. She working to get enough poundage to hunt next spring. She'll be deer hunting with me as well. My son isn't quite as excited but he is very slowly coming around. My other son is a great shot when he did, but doesn't really care for it.

I just set my 13yr old sons bow set up yesterday, still adjusting my 9yr old daughters bow & looking for my 9yr old son a bow now. My 13 & 9 yr old boys are excited since I told them when they could pull 40 # I'd get them some good arrows, then when they can hold a good group at 20 I'd take them to stick a small pig. I haven't heard then end of it yet!!
I'd rather introduce them to a bow and arrow at a young age, then see where they go. I let mine decide on their own.
I have my 9 year old daughter shooting a recurve now and she loves it. I tried having her shoot a Mission but she could not hold the bow steady it was to heavy for her. Any advise from you all or should I have her keep on shooting the recurve till she gets stronger Thanks
My boys get a bow when they turn 5 and we shot in the yard. They've all been out hunting with me this year and had a good time.
I would try a Genesis Mini. They are light, go down to about 8# draw weight, and hold their value very well. On the other hand, if she is having fun with the recurve, and is feeling successful, stick with that.
Don't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever let them shoot without a good arm guard that stretches above and below elbow. My baby was shooting with me, shooting quite well I might add. She managed to burn her arm very badly, and that was the end of it for her....
Thanks she has been shooting the local conservation club's Genesis bow and feels comfortable with it.
