Thinking of going opening week this year to Kansas mainly do to conflict of work in November. Also there would be less hunting pressure due to the rest of the guys coming hunt in November, I'd have pretty much the 1100ac to myself. I'm hunting around sedan,ks in the south east corner. What's your input on early season for guys from that area or other leaser?? Thanks

Depends on weather! If it actually decides to cool off then it's not to bad at all but if it stays warm out it can make for some miserable hunting due to the bugs and lack of deer movement!

I hunt outside sedan also. early season will be a challenge. I have some mineral sites with cameras on them and will have several other cameras out. I could try and help you before you get here with movement and what we are seeing. just need to get ahold of me

Generally It's pretty hot with lots of mosquitos. If you can catch a cold front, it is killer on a good food source in the evenings

In my opinion the last week of Oct and the first week of Nov is the best 2 wks. You will see a lot of bucks cruising.

I'm honestly thinking more along these dates than the early season. Last week of Oct is what I'm thinking as those cold fronts start moving in and the pre-rut starting.

You ever hunt the walk in property off road 11? That's around the area we are in off rd 11. I'm going to play the weather and go late oct.

Well little update...we lost our farm but was able to pick up another thank the lord. Lady we leased from took away 1/3 of our land and wouldn't budge on the price and allowed someone to hunt it this year without even letting us know anything till after applied for tags. But thankfully we looked at a farm last year and was still available to lease out. Only issue is there isn't a place to stay so hotel it is for us lol. Still debating early season because most everyone else hunting wants to hunt the week of the 15th and I think it will be to much pressure with 7 hunters on 800-1000 ac....My wife was able to get to hunt now because it is a cheaper lease due to no housing. So guys help me decide on early season sedan,ks hunting. I need to make a decision soon due to booking a place to stay. Is a week of early season worth my vacation and time? Or try and hunt the rut with everyone else crammed up? any suggestion are much appreciated. thanks guys

Early season can be good providing you have the the right food source...think milo. Next issue is with bucks only really moving bed to feed you have to have some first hand knowledge about current movement. That's puts a traveling hunter like yourself really behind the eight ball in the early season. You can spend half your evenings glassing hoping to set up one or two good evening sits.
Me, I pass unless I have solid recent info to go on.

Yeah I have a week to get it done without any scouting or info before hand. Plus this is a new place that we never hunted or patterned deer on yet. Might be a little much on early season.

Jimmy nailed it... ever consider making a weekend trip? Say end of July / first week of August? Spring for a couple of cell cams and get them out in some likely places. Could change the ball game for ya.... Other wise I would make my trip the week prior to the other hunters. 7 dudes on 800 -1000 acres is ALOT!!!
