I've been having this problem alot this season, My question is in the afternoon hunt when your getting out of the stand, what do you do when you have deer come in when its that moment where everythings brown and you cant see the deer but its right there? This year i have been doing a snort wheeze at them to scare them away. What do you guys do?
I've tried a few things. I've tried the coyote howl i've barked like a dog. I've also sat it out. The one thing i do when it starts getting really late i climb down and pull out my grunt tube. I blow on it and try to sound as much like a deer as I can as I walk my way out quickly. that has seemed to work for me quite a bit. They might scamper off but they rarely blow and wheez at me.
Snort wheeze or coyote howl are good ideas. I never really had too much of this problem because I am setup in the woods so deer are really only passing by, not really sticking around.
I just wait it out. I've only had it happen twice but I'd rather the deer have no clue I'm there than be a little late for dinner.
I typically pull out the grunt tube or snort wheeze to clear the area. If that doesnt work I'll resort throwing bark or breaking off small branches. At this point most deer have found theie way in a different direction, but do you guys ever have the curious 1.5 year old spikes that just wont leave no matter what you do? I've had them stay at 20-30 yards as I climb down from my stand and they dont bugger off until I'm walking on the ground. I figure those are the ones that dont make it long when team orange hits the woods.
