This is my first bow kill EVER! Pretty heart warming story behind shooting him! Here is the story.... I haven't been able to hunt since I was a Junior in high school due to playing basketball in college at UW-Stout. (I am now a senior in College, long time of no hunting. STRESSFUL.) Anyways, my family and I recently had been down at my old hometown of Montello, Wi because my Grandma Polk (my dad's mother) hadn't been doing very well due to battling cancer for the last 2 years now. She had been given 6 months to live this year in June 2013. She had been having a couple weeks of trouble being sick and uncomfortable due to the cancer. (Not fun to watch of see anyone suffer like she did) So, long story short, I finally went a got a new Mathews Mission Riot on Friday November 1st, 2013. Later that night, my Grandma unfortunately passed away..... The next morning I got out on the roof and started to tune in my bow. After I had done that, I debated on what stand I should sit in due to the rut just starting up by us. I chose a really nice White Pine stand along 2 ridges. As I sat there I got a text from my dad asking what I have been seeing. Nothing was my response. As I sent that text a nice 10 pointer walks out from the bedding area at 80 yards. I knew he was a shooter. He kicked up a doe and started to follow her along a path heading in the complete opposite direction away from me. I text my dad back and said "Shooter Buck, 80 yards, went away from me." My dad responded with, "With how that stand is set-up, he will be back!" Thirty minutes later, I hear a twig snap, and I look to my north and hear this same shooter buck comes. With no time to be nervous, he offers me a shot at 30 yards, perfectly broadside. (btw been in the stand no longer than an hour and 30 minutes) I released my arrow and my heart dropped thinking I had just missed a dandy buck..... Long story short: my dad and I eventually found blood and came upon my first ever bow buck 60 yards from my stand lying on top of the ridge!! What an awesome sight that was! My dad was shocked when he came upon him lying there. When I first went and held him up, the first thing that came to my mind was the my Grandma Polk was definitely out in the stand with me. I truly believe God performs some amazing miracles because one for sure happened to me on the 2nd of November. Sorry this story was so long, but I figured it was so cool to have my Grandma out in the stand with me the afternoon after she had passed away! The one picture is my dad and I! He believes God performed one hell of a miracle the day after his own mom had passed away!! God Bless and Bowhunt or Die! ,
What a nice buck, and a most heartwarming story. I do believe your Grandma was pain free and smiling at you on this day. God bless you and your family. Congratulations on your first............and my condolences regarding your loss.
