How much poundage is everyone pulling back? why do you choose that pounds? im pulling back 74lbs on my rampage xt reason because there is less arc in my flight path when shooting long range
I bought a 70-80# element and it's currently set on ~77 pounds. I ca ndraw it and like the speed and flatness at that weight and can draw it easily enough. Hopefully it doesn't cause any long term damage to my shoulder, lol. I chose that poundage because I plan on doing some elk, moose, bear hunting with this bow and some point and wanted the flatness, speed and KE to fling heavier arrows at good speed and distance. (and because I could draw it easily enough)
Pull what you can pull straight back, no hercules draw, sitting down. Reason? Pulling 74lbs. in a tshirt now is not pulling it on 11/7 after 4 hours in a tree in 8 degree weather with bulky gear on. I used to draw 74lbs. I now draw 60 lbs/29.5/400 grain arrow@304fps with a 7 pin sight to 90 yards.
I shoot 63lbs, at 27.5" DL. I shoot this because this is a weight that is comfortable for me to hold. This is more than enough to get threw moose, elk, bear, etc.
I pull back 63 because its all I need to get the job done.... I dont need to flex my muscles in the stand.
Because I have a shorter draw,28 1/2, I used to pull all the wieght my bow could must, around 74# honestly it was never difficult for me I can straight draw that no issue. The way I see it though you can draw all the wieght in the world on the range but it may mean nothing when you cant get it back drawing cold in your stand and all that extra KE will mean nothing without stability and accuracy.
Ha! I wish I had a 28.5" DL. That's average, brother. I have shot from 65-76 on all of my hunting bows. I typically shoot around 66-68 now Sent from my soup can and string
I'm at about 65#. I'd be around 58-60#, but My arrows liked a little more draw weight. I like to shoot light DW for 2 reasons. 1- late season sits. I don't have to worry about sitting for a couple hours in negative temps then pulling back. 2- It gets the job done.
I am right with you! I am right around that same draw weight. I have never not had a complete pass thru when making a good shot at that weight with my current setup.
70. I have a pretty short dl. 27in. So I feel I need a little extra weight. I also feel comfortable with that poundage.
Maxed out at 72 lbs. 5'-7" with a short DL. I weigh a 182 and not fat...well not too fat. Anyway, in terms of biomechanics, the shorter the arm length, the easier the draw. I shoot 72 lbs, because I can.
I have chosen to shoot 62lbs because it was the right lbs for my arrows and my APA Mamba M7 to operate silent.
