Who all checks there setup before getting in the stand. Is it the day before couple days a week etc. How critical is it for you to go over your yardage. Can u be confident testing a field point or do you make sure your broadheads are flying good. I honestly think checking the day before has proved affective for me. Just curious because ive noticed certain hunters who check right before they go to the stand. I like hunting early mornings which limits me to doing so at 5 a.m. and its dark. What are your thoughts? I shoot field tips up until roughly mid-end of August, then switch to shooting broadheads only. Practice with what you hunt with! Not only do I know they shoot well and my bow is still in tune at this time, it helps adding confidence in your equipment as you shoot it enough to know and trust it and for you to do your part! Right before the season starts I spin test and sharpen all my heads back to shaving sharp. I shoot right before and throughout the season as well.
Broadheads often don't fly identical to field points. You need to shoot n be sure. Id be sighted for n using broadheads all season
I'm in a broadhead league during the summer so my bow is tuned already. Should be deadly by September 17th.
I shoot year round, including during the season. My bow is broadhead tuned so they hit with my field points. To limit dulling my broadheads mid-season, I shoot field points since they hit the same (because of my tuning efforts, it is not a guess).
If I'm going to do a once over on everything, I'll typically do it the night or day before. Once I get up in the morning, I'm generally so anxious to get in my stand that I don't want to mess with that stuff. And I also don't want to be moving around and making a bunch of noise in my stand, obviously. But I agree with most above. I am definitely practicing with broadheads directly before and during season.
At least every other day during season I: Sit on a chair a few minutes. Shoot 1 broadhead. Get up, get another BH and sit down. Sit a few minutes then shoot a single BH. Repeat for 6 BH. It's only the first shot that counts. Then I shoot 3 BH and 3 FP a few or several times.
I will shoot field points at least once a week, try to shoot 2 or 3 times a week most of the time especially leading up to start of any season, deer or turkey. I shoot each of my hunting arrows once to make sure they fly good and then put them back in my quiver. I'll shoot my bow the day before and make sure all my gear is ready to go for the morning. Obviously if I drop my bow or slip carrying it or something, I'll shoot it and check to make sure everything is good.
I usually shoot at least 4 times a week during season so if something gets bumped its not long until I find out,I also have my sights, rest, peep and and even my cams(to check for string stretch)marked with a little dab of white paint and every time before I shoot or hunt I look at each mark to see if it has moved at all.
I try to shoot After every hunt. My side yard is lit up enough to sling a few after evening hunts b4 i put my stuff away. Keep a block in my truck. I know things can happen in transport etc. But that's why I bought an SKB. It's just easier to shoot afterwards and as long as you don't go throwing your bow around it should be ok.
Never thought about it like that I think I'm gonna try it an see what results I get Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Used to shoot broadheads year round but now do that the last month before seaon. Then normally shoot a practice shot every day or two during the season. If it's late when I get back I'll take a 2o yard practice shot with a flashlight iluminating the target.
