Ok you southern bowhunters, let's hear your secrets to surviving the heat and humidity of early season waaaay down south. I just moved to south Mississippi from Virginia. I am dripping sweat when I go scouting, or do anything outside for that matter. How does everyone get by in the early season?
thermacell to keep from getting eaten alive. a leaf suit over shorts is cooler. play the wind cause you're going to sweat. extra coolers in the truck with ice for game when you get it. welcome to the south.
I have the ASAT leafy suit over shorts and no shirt sometimes when its really hot, not sure if anyone else mention it but THERMACELL, THERMACELL, THERMACELL,....... Can't mention THERMACELL enough..... Play the wind because you can't stop the sweating it just is what it is..
As mentioned, a themacell is a must. I often hunt in gym shorts and a t shirt (washed and scent free) covered by a leafy suit. I'll walk to the stand and then put it on. Snake boots! Get you a good pair of snake boots. Very important. You can look at the ground all you want but you will walk up on a rattle snake and never see it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Tapatalk
Thermacell. And something that nobody else said is a camo rain suit. Nothing like a pop up shower in Mississippi. I hunt hear Hattiesburg. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good advice!!! Also, to the OP, it takes a few months to really get a body acclimatize to such a serious temperature and humidity change. Be sure to hydrate for days before being outside, whether mowing, etc, or hunting.
Best suggestion ever. I lived in Alabama in the early 90's and wish I had one back then. Even in rifle season I remember it being warm and dealing with bugs lol.
Besides the Thermacell I put my scent spray in the cooler to keep it cold. Feels nice to spray down with some cold scent spray. I wet and freeze a rag shaped to my neck so when I get to the stand I can put it around my neck. As the icy rag melts it will send some cool water down your back, going to get wet but will keep you cool. So far this year I haven't hunted an afternoon because of the heat but I cant hold out much longer.
I pack extra clothes. Get in the stand let my body temp cool down then change into the clothes I brought with
Thermacel is a must!! I wear a Moisture wicking base layer that helps me cool off and dry really fast. I have a mesh ghillie suit that I treat with permethrin that allows for me to stay cool as well.
I hunt the atchafalaya delta wma in South La.. naked under an asat leafy suit would work maybe Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
I live in south ms you get used to it .... Even when it is 50 million degrees and 4000 percent humidity
